Does the thought of the year ending and a new one beginning excite or depress you?
For years, I was ready to jump from mid-November right to mid-March. That four-month period was one that couldn’t end fast enough.
Part of it was the lack of sunlight, the coldness made my arthritic joints scream at me, and then there were the early year failures.
I stopped making New Year’s Resolutions since I was one to quickly mess them up. That’s one reason why I switched to 90-day goals.
For the past 6 or 7 years, I start planning for the following year each November. Part it is because of something I heard Dan Miller of “48 Days To The Work You Love” fame said. He has all his goals for the next year done by November 14th since that is 48 days until the end of the year.
Since my birthday is the 13th, I tried to have my goals for the next year in place.
Since I’ve moved to making 90-day goals, I’ve been doing better but it still feels like I haven’t quite reached my full potential effectively nor set and achieve meaningful goals.
So I’m trying something different.
Most of us have heard the old adage “What you don’t measure, you can’t improve.”
I decided to take inventory of my life. As the Greek philosopher, Thales of Miletus is credited with saying, “The most difficult thing in life is to know yourself.”
The inventory that I took looked at 10 areas of life. You can decide to check out how where you are in any or all these areas:
If you want to take the same inventory I did, you can take it here.
Like I said, I took the inventory in all the above areas. You may not decide to share your results with the world, but I’m willing to share my results.
My overall LifeScore was 77.
The two areas I need the focus on were not a surprise. They were the areas of Physical and Spiritual. Tied for third was what the inventory called the “Circle of Doing”. This encompasses the areas of Vocational, Avocational, and Financial.
Since this past summer, I did not exercise as much as I knew I needed to. The result was gaining back all the weight I lost (plus a few more) during the first half of the year.
Spiriutally I have plateaued. I am not being fed spiritually where I attend on Sunday mornings. That’s been the case for a long time. I was part of a Bible study that met for a long time but that dissolved a couple of months ago and I haven’t replaced it.
My Commitment To You and To MySelf
During the next 90 days, starting December 1st, I am working on the following goals.
- I will walk, bike, or use the elliptical machine for a total of 90 miles.
- I will drink 90oz of water each day.
- I will lose 9 pounds in the next 90 days
- I will read 90 chapters of Scripture, reading at least one chapter from each book of the Bible
- I will read a Psalm and chapter of Proverbs each day
- I will write out Psalm 23 each of these 90
- I will write 90,000 words for my blogs, journal, and quiet time
- I will also create 90 social media posts (Facebook and Twitter, possibly Instagram and Pinterest)
- I will meet with 9 business professionals in order to build my business
Circle of Doing (Vocational/Avocational/Financial)
I will also be putting up a weekly update on my status.
